Naomi Stracey, July Keepers of the Flame Scholarship Recipient

My name is Naomi Stracey and I am in 7th grade at Community Montessori School. I am very interested in bioactive aquariums and terrariums. I have built a couple on my own and would like to build more and make the ones I have more sustainable.

I have done hours of research and know-how to build bioactive tanks. I need more funds to get more resources to build bigger and better tanks. I want to eventually sell these tanks to people who may not know how to build them because many people have their fish in aquariums that aren’t healthy for the fish, but the owners don’t necessarily know that. I want to bring more attention to the difference between healthy and unhealthy tanks.

I think bio-active tanks are really cool. I have a betta fish named Krampus who wasn’t very healthy, so I started to research tanks and bio-active environments. I built Krampus a bio-active tank which now houses five snails and three shrimp and Krampus and they are all happy and healthy. I also have another bioactive terrarium that houses many beetles and bugs (that have escaped from time to time).

I have done lots of research and continue to do more research and have made discoveries along the way. I love animals and seeing them thrive. I love building these tanks and want to show other people how to do it. One day I want to have a store that sells them.

I want to make a step-by-step guide on how to build bio-active tanks and I also want to start a YouTube channel that showcases and helps people understand bio-active tanks and show them that building one isn’t that complicated if you use the right materials.
