Region IV Mental Health Services Secures Grant for Drug Court Expansion
Partnership with 23rd Circuit Intervention Court expands access to drug court treatment in Mississippi
Region IV Mental Health Services was awarded a grant from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) to implement the Drug Court Expansion program.
The program targets high-risk/high-need adults, with demographic statistics indicating a focus on a diverse and underserved community. The Drug Court Expansion will expand access to evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment for Substance Use Disorders and Co-occurring Mental Health Disorders (SUD/COD), case management and peer-led recovery support services for 250 high-risk, high-need participants enrolled in drug court administered by the 23rd Circuit Intervention Court.
Jackie Sue Griffin, Executive Director of Jackie Sue Griffin & Associates and the grant writer for the award, said, “This grant will transform lives, significantly improve access to Drug Court treatment and improve recidivism.”
During the 5-year project period, evidence-based practices will Motivational Interviewing (MI), Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), coupled in IOP and outpatient treatment. Drug Court participants will be screened with the Risk and Needs Triage (RANT) to tailor the individual level of risk with associated needs. Recovery support services linkages to housing, employment, healthcare, and social supports will improve housing stability, employment status, and social connectedness. Over the next 5 years, the program will serve 50 drug court participants annually, totaling 250 individuals by the end of project.
