Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources Receives Grant to Transform Behavioral Health in Southern Mississippi
Expanding Access and Advancing Trauma-Informed Integrated Care in 13 Underserved Counties
Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources, a Community Mental Health Center has received a grant award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) to implement a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center. The CCBHC model of care will expand access to trauma-informed, culturally relevant, evidence based comprehensive whole person centered behavioral healthcare in 13 medically underserved counties in Southern, Mississippi: Covington, Forrest, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Stone, and Wayne.
The four-year project will expand trauma-informed quality behavioral health care across the lifespan. The CCBHC will serve 600 individuals with severe mental illnesses (SMI), substance use disorders (SUD) including opioid dependencies, children and youth with severe emotional disturbances (SED), those with co-occurring disorders (COD), individuals in crisis related to mental health or substance use, as well as members of the armed forces, veterans, and their families.
“The CCBHC will provide quality mental healthcare across the lifespan and advance health equity for traditionally underserved rural communities,” said Jackie Sue Griffin of Jackie Sue Griffin & Associates, grant writer for the award.
Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources will use multi-faceted approach that is trauma-informed and culturally competent approach to expand access to a comprehensive range of outreach, treatment, and recovery supports coupled with evidence-based high-quality treatment; expanded crisis response and improved integrated primary and behavioral health outcomes. Trauma-informed evidence-based practices will include Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Peer Recovery-Oriented Support Services.
