Community Counseling Services is Awarded Grant to Implement Expansion of Golden Triangle Region System of Care

Revolutionizing Mental Health Care for Children, Youth, and Young Adults in Seven Medically Underserved Counties

Northeast Mississippi – The Golden Triangle Region System of Care will be expanded through a grant award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) enhancing mental healthcare for children, youth, and young adults at risk for or with serious emotional disturbance (SED). The four-year project will provide services for individuals birth to age 21 and their families in seven medically underserved Northeast, MS counties: Lowndes, Oktibbeha, Noxubee, Clay, Webster, Choctaw, and Winston.

“The four-year Golden Triangle Region System of Care grant award will sustain the tremendous mental health outcomes the SOC has achieved during the past 12 years,” says Jackie Sue Griffin of Jackie Sue Griffin & Associates, the grant writer for the award. “I am so proud to serve on the team with Community Counseling Services.”

The Golden Triangle Region System of Care expansion provides trauma and grief informed care and culturally responsive evidence-based mental health services for 400 children, youth, young adults and families, while ensuring robust policy, infrastructure development, and sustainable financing.  Evidence-based practices will include Motivational Interviewing; Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Moral Recognition Therapy; SPARCS; QPR; MHFA; Coping and Support Training; Illness, Management and Recovery; ARISE Life Skills Curricula; Second Step Program; Skills Streaming; The Prepare Curriculum and Peer Recovery Supports.
