INSPIRING WOMEN TO NEW HEIGHTS!

Tammy Graves has never been afraid of a challenge or trying new things. In fact, she thrives on that. She credits her mom who inspired this way of thinking. Her mom started hiking in her 50’s and still does now in her 70’s. Tammy began hiking in her early 40’s and recently accomplished a feat that blended her love of adventure traveling, hiking and working out: Climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro!

“My husband and I were thinking about a trip back to Africa,” said Graves. “It was just one of those moments that felt like a sign pointing in that direction so I started researching it and decided it was just right for me, right now.”

At 19,340 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest mountain and the world’s largest free-standing mountain. It turns out, this was not just a personal accomplishment, Tammy bonded with several other women on her hiking team! In April of 2023, they all went to Nepal trekking to Everest Base Camp!

Tammy loves inspiring other women through her adventures.

“Several women I’ve met, a couple in their mid-20’s come to mind, have been really interested in solo backpacking and adventuring and have been nervous to take the next step because of the antiquated societal pressures and artificial fears of what a woman can or should do alone. I love sharing my experiences to help build their confidence and real-life examples to contradict those pressures and fears.”

Tammy praises her workouts at Orangetheory Fitness in Seattle for physically preparing her for this journey.

For women wondering if they should also take that next step, Tammy says: “If you have the ability, do it!”
