23 Dec HERstory: Terry Neese
This holiday season we’re highlighting women that bring joy to the world as part of the “HERjoy” December series! A perfect person who embodies this quality of sparking joy for others is CEO for the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women and an advocate for women, Dr. Terry Neese.
“We are receiving a record number of applications from Afghanistan and Rwanda for I.E.E.W.’s 17th cohort,” Dr. Neese states. For the past 16 years I.E.E.W. has educated and empowered 1,021 women business owners in Afghanistan and Rwanda, that according to the organizations website.
We’re inspired by the work Dr. Neese does with her organization which provides business training classes in Afghanistan and Rwanda for female business owners. The institute accomplishes this mission by focusing on education, mentorship, and coaching women in the U.S. and abroad. The goal is to help those who are seeking to acquire entrepreneurial skills to help start and grow their own businesses.
“I see women leading the way in stepping out and charting their own futures by becoming business owners. I also see women using their voices more to express their views on issues of concern to them and taking the step to run for political office to serve their community, their state and their country,” said Dr. Neese according to an interview done with the National Association of Women Business Owners.
“I grew up at the end of a dirt road in Oklahoma and became a serial entrepreneur at 21. I built a multi-million-dollar staffing firm, which my daughter now runs.”
The institute’s PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program educates women who have suffered oppression and marginalization and whose homelands have been devastated by war, genocide, and poverty. Dr. Neese says she’s met with several female business owners throughout her career and has been able to empower them to achieve their dreams of financial freedom.
